I'm going to assume you've never hired a photographer before, so it's important that you get to know them, like them and crucially, trust them.
So here are the most asked questions a wedding photographer will hear.
HOPE THIS HELPS
We don't have a set date yet, can we still message you?
Yes absolutely. We can still discuss your needs and expectations, then simply get your date confirmed as soon as you can.
What are the steps after we fill out the message form?
I will contact you by phone or email as quickly as possible. Typically within 24 hours. If, for whatever reason you haven't heard from me, you can call me directly on 07792 505231
What if it rains on our wedding day?
"RIGHT, THAT'S IT.......LET'S CALL THE WHOLE BLOODY THING OFF!!!!!!"
OR, MAYBE JUST BE PREPARED
As a wedding photographer in Leicester, or the UK in general for that matter, you cannot control the weather. A thunderstorm at 1pm will often be followed by a heatwave at 3pm. My advice is to embrace it. Everything's still going to be amazing and the photographs are still going to be awesome.
HERE'S A TIP FOR YOU
You're probably not short of Aunties asking if there's anything they can help with in the lead up to the big day. Make one of them your Rainy Day Co-ordinator. A rainy day box in the boot of a car equipped with 5 or 6 umbrellas, a pack of towels, hair dryer and even some wellies could be a God send when you need them most.
And as your wedding photographer, I can actually use the weather as a key and memorable part of your story.
Long story short. Don't panic, leave it to me and let's get creative.
Your wedding day is going to be one of the most special occasions of your life. But it can also be very overwhelming and stressful. There are some great resources and planning guides out there to help you get things in order.
I hate having my photo taken! What will you do?
This is so incredibly common and people feel guilty about saying this to a wedding photographer. Don't sweat it, I won't take it personally. I HATE HAVING MY PHOTO TAKEN TOO.
Unless you're a professional model, most people don't love it and certainly don't look their best when forcing a smile. For this reason, my approach is extremely relaxed. I won't bore you with all the details or my secret techniques, but there are so many ways that a confident photographer can get people genuinely and spontaneously reacting. My two favourites.
1. Don't look at the camera, look at each other. I promise you'll naturally just laugh or do something other than say "CHEESE".
2. Get a wedding guest to stand behind the camera and do something crazy. Some of the utter rudeness I've had going on behind my back must have been a sight to behold to get the kind of expressions I get.
Check out my WEDDING CATALOGUE to see more examples of my style.
Have you worked at our wedding venue before?
The honest truth is that whether I have or I haven't, it really doesn't matter. I would never replicate or copy what I'd done at a previous wedding anyway. You deserve better than that. You are unique and I want to capture a unique story for you.
Shooting at new venues is inspiring and approaching it with a fresh pair of eyes makes for great creativity which is ultimately better for you guys.
I also ensure that I get to your wedding venue nice and early so I can chat to the registrar, take some light readings and get my creative head on.
NEW VENUE? NO BIG DEAL!
Can we order albums or digital animations after the wedding?
Yes. Your images will be kept by Will Norman Photography and products such as albums can be ordered even years later.
Do you take formal shots?
Yes absolutely, if you want me to. I understand that you want to stay in the Grandparent's good books, so certain boxes need ticking. There absolutely is a place for traditional family line-ups at a wedding. But rest assured, I make sure there's plenty of natural laughs and fun in there too.
Some people just want 3 or 4 groupings. Some like many more. A 'must have' list is something I recommend we compile as we get to know each other better. But don't worry. I'll still be there getting all those candid documentary style shots that you love.
How are the photos edited?
The first edit is to keep only the absolute best images so any obvious blinks, dodgy expressions or generally sub-par images are deleted.
The second edit stage is to professionally digitally retouch each selected image.
The crop and shape of each image will be at the discretion of Will Norman Photography.
A variety of Colour and Monochrome images will be produced. This will again be at the discretion of Will Norman Photography.
Any specific creative requirements must be agreed prior to the wedding.
Failing this, creative autonomy will lie solely with the photographer.
What happens at the evening reception?
Every wedding will differ. Sometimes I'll get loads of evening action shots and others less so. This tends to be lead by the guests themselves and how much is happening. But if you're having a DJ or a band for example, I will absolutely stay to capture all the fun and action of the dancefloor. Almost all wedding photographers leave after the first dance, but I take great pride in the way that I capture everybody having a dance in the evening. So, I'd absolutely encourage people to let their hair down and get their dancing shoes on, as taking formal photos of everybody sitting around a table isn't great.
I'll be there to capture as much of the reception action as I can, and when the dance floor starts to quieten down, I'll call it a night.
What Software / Tools do you use?
I use a combination of Adobe Light Room & Adobe Photoshop in post-production.
My main camera is a Nikon Z6ii and I always shoot to RAW files for optimum quality.
I'll typically shoot with a variety of Godox flash lights both on and off camera.
Can I have the RAW photos?
The simple answer is no I'm afraid not.
Can we post our images on the internet?
Yes absolutely you can. Share them on any platform you like. Just remember to tag @willnormanphotography
Can we see some of your wedding shoots in full?
Yes absolutely. I'm extremely proud of the diverse range I capture for each wedding. Any photographer can put together 20 great shots from 20 separate weddings. But that really doesn't help you does it?
